The Lord Is Never Appreciated

The Roger Smith Hotel must not have read my last blog, or they'd know that His Lord and Savior was actually sweetly anticipated by many. So, My Sweet Jesus will not be exhibited after all. They cancelled the exhibit. Assholes.

It'll just have to be enough to know that Chocolate Jesus exists, and I was able to spread word of His chocolatey creation and that I was able to bring joy (& delusions of grandeur) to Allie's life.

I'm oddly disappointed that My Sweet Lord will not, in fact, be around in time for Easter.

In fact, I submit to you, loyal subjects, that a Real Christian would have viewed this as an opportunity to reach the masses and show the world that we have a sense of humor. This could have been something really positive. But no, history repeats itself, and Jesus is simply not appreciated. The religious freaks in charge are the ones with the public pull (Hello, Pharisees!) with no regard for those who actually want to listen.

Chocolate Jesus Easter Exhibit Cancelled, Hotel "Affirms
Dignity"

In response to the public outcry over the life-sized 6-foot chocolate Jesus, naked and hanging on a cross, during the Catholic Lent week leading up to Easter, the Roger Smith Hotel has decided to cancel the exhibit.

According to a press release from the hotel, James Knowles, the president of the Roger Smith Hotel, said the feelings of Catholics and Christians, who announced via the Catholic League their intentions to boycott the exhibit -- and the ubsequent news media wall-to-wall coverage of the outraged citizens protesting the idea of a naked figure of Jesus in chocolate -- were "crystal clear". Knowles said they decided to "affirm the dignity and responsibility of the Hotel" by cancelling the controversial exhibit.

"March 30, 2007

Dear Friends,

Your response to the exhibit at the Lab Gallery is crystal clear and has brought to our attention the unintended reaction of you and other conscientious friends of ours to the exhibition of Cosimo Cavallaro. We have caused the cancellation of the exhibition and wish to affirm the dignity and responsibility of the Hotel in all its affairs. James Knowles President Roger Smith Hotel"

The Post Chronicle broke this story early yesterday which sparked outrage from the Catholic League and a media blitz today. Matt Semler, the gallery's creative director, resigned after officials at the Roger Smith Hotel shut down the how, reports CNN.

"They jumped to conclusions completely contrary to our intentions," said Semler of the public reaction to the exhibit when New York's Cardinal Egan joined the outcry. According to reports from the hotel, phone calls and emails, some apparently including death threats, made management decide to eliminate the 200 pound chocolate Jesus from their exhibit.
